Join me for a look behind the scenes of a Border Watch Films production which I’ve had the privilege of seeing crafted into a presentation by various contributors. Although at times the project seemed a lost cause, perhaps it was fitting for it to reflect the very subject being discussed….. In 1940, the British Expeditionary Force is stationed across the channel in support of France and Belgium. Winston Churchill has only just become the Prime Minister when Nazi Germany launches their attack westward. The nightmare of a second world war has become reality. When advancing forces threaten to encircle the British Expeditionary Force, their best chance of evading defeat is the strategic withdraw to Dunkirk. The bulk of British forces […]
The short movie produced in collaboration with Phipps Philms, Twice Owned, was nominated for Best Short as a Finalist in the Christian Worldview Film Festival this March. Johnathan Schutz (visual effects artist) and Benjamin Owen (producer) were present for the movie screenings and awards event. Audiences commented on its “good story arc” and liked the “watercolor effects”. In the following month, Twice Owned was awarded an Honorable Mention by The Attic Film Festival, also held in Texas. “We wanted to produce something for low-cost ministry use,” Owen explained, “and we hope it will provide a good starting point for presenting the Gospel.” The short film and bonus videos are free to view online, including the study guide. Most recently, Twice […]
The new five part “Refracted Glory Bible Study” released earlier this spring. It adapts the documentary film to a format suitable for group studies. The study booklet, written by Caleb Rodriguez, takes a slower pace than that of the film, which allows for a deeper exploration of Scripture. Hummingbirds, whether viewed in rocks or in flight, in laboratories or in backyards, point us to the eternal life only found in Jesus Christ. “It became clear that the ‘Refracted Glory’ movie was rather hard for churches to use,” says the film’s director, Benjamin Owen; “but we wanted that content to be usable for church groups.” The solution of a Bible study came through much prayer, and the collaborative efforts of Caleb […]

It has been exciting to see “Refracted Glory” enjoyed by people from all over and share the life-changing Gospel message through hummingbirds. We appreciate your help in letting people know about this unique documentary. We continue to get a good response from audiences and there is always excitement toward the topic of hummingbirds at events. For most, seeing hummingbirds in slow-motion is enough to interest them… but “Refracted Glory” goes further and leaves people truly in awe. It is our hope that they are not in awe only of hummingbirds; we want Jesus Christ to be the true focus. We want people to remember our Creator whenever they see things like hummingbirds; that they might give GOD glory, “who is […]

Thank you all for your support of “Refracted Glory.” Please help us spread the word about this film, which we believe to present an important message. James Gardner, who appears in the film, said; “I have been looking forward to previewing this production for a long time. And I am happy to say that I am not disappointed. I am particularly pleased how you ended the film with a clear presentation of the Gospel. I think you did a very good job putting this together. And the video editing is impressive.” The […]
We had a huge turnout for the “Refracted Glory” Premiere this week. Everyone seemed to enjoy the film and it was exciting to see the response after a long year of post production. Cast and Crew attending were David Rives (the documentary narrator/host), the Hummingbird family, Caleb Phipps (cinematographer) and Luke Holloway (3D animator). We had a good time talking about the production and answering questions after the movie. David Rives also sang one of his original songs called “In His Hands”. Video clips have been posted to the exclusive Behind The Scenes Blog, for those who could not attend in person. Thank you to everyone who came and to those helping us make this event happen!
We’re happy to announce that David Rives will be host/narrator of our upcoming feature “Refracted Glory”. “I am very excited to be working with Border Watch Films on this new project,” says Rives. “My passion is in presenting the message of Creation through awe-inspiring and oftentimes overlooked examples of our Creator’s power. The hummingbird, I believe, is one of the best examples.” David Rives is seen across the globe as host of the TV show “Creation in the 21st Century” on TBN. David has been featured on the History Channel, has participated in archaeological excavations in the Holy Land, and is the author of the book “Wonders Without Number”. “30 Ways to Pray” from GetAmericaPraying.com Scripture instructs us to pray for all in authority (1 Timothy 2:1-2), but how do we do that, exactly? Here are 30 ways to pray for our leaders — our judges, educators, police chiefs, school board members, military officers, elected officials, and others who serve our country by leading. 1. That they be God-fearing and recognize that they are accountable to Him for each decision and act. (Proverbs 9:10) 2. That they be granted wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. (James 1:5) 3. That they be presented with the gospel and a loving Christian witness. (Romans 10:14) 4. That, if unsaved, they be drawn to a saving encounter with Christ; if born-again, that they be strengthened […]

Here is what one viewer said after watching “Balance of Justice” : “I just finished the documentary and can’t believe the depth and breadth you covered in less than 60 minutes while completely capturing the viewer with insightful, well-varied interviews, quotes and b-roll. I had planned to watch this while typing on another project, but once it started, it grabbed my complete focus. Col. Eidsmoe and David Fowler were excellent authorities. I really enjoyed their take on positive versus negative law, particularly when Eidsmoe explained why negative laws support greater liberty than positive laws. I don’t think I’ve heard it put that well before. The time and thought you invested in this project shows on screen in a very positive […]
